Meal
in Jurmala is rather expensive, especially on the beach. For example,
it is necessary to lay out one lat (about 2 Euros) for pleasure to
drink a cup of natural hot coffee, sitting at a little table and
pensively looking at the sea. A glass of hot tea in the same place
on the beach costs 0.2 Euros. Well, it is not recommended to drink
the cooled beer on the beach, though... as it is pleasant to
somebody, miscellaneous beer on the beach is available. On the
picture: I have dinner usually on this small market. There is a cafe
here with simple tasty meal, and rations are very big. It is
possible to have dinner for 2-3 Euros. |
Musical
competition "New Wave" in Jurmala. A huge stage. have been
constructed directly on the beach. In the first day the stage faced
Jurmala direction. The sound from loud-speakers was so powerful,
that all Jurmala, including President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Frejberga,
did not sleep all the night long while the concert - disco proceeded.
Next day the stage was turned into Riga direction. On the picture:
The stage is in the background, Russian beer advertising has reached
the Riga beach, as it is visible in the foreground. An inscription
on a locker room: " Well-known Russian beer ". And so -
through every fifty meters. |
Now
we will make our way to the remote place, or as they say speak here,
"to farmland". On my experience of trips to Russia (though
it was long ago) I know, that there the countrymen, if they see a
stranger, will certainly greet him. If you appear in Latvia and
travel to farmland, local rural or, it is better to say, khutor
people behave with strangers completely in a different way. They
silently see off all oncoming people by long steadfast sights,
turning a head on 180 degrees according to your movement by them. I
suspect, that after you will disappear from sight around the road
turn, they still look to you following for a long time, as though
being perplexed, whence you here appeared. In spite of apparent
animosities, if you to address to a local resident with any
insignificant question (of course, in Latvian, as many simply do not
know Russian) and then you are to listen vast explanations, advices
on your question and reasoning on many different local themes, jokes,
recipes and so on before you will manage to get rid of him.
On the picture: I have met this poster on one of village roads.
It was nailed to a pile. "Kristap! Take this road... ". |
Let
us go to bathe by a mill! " To go to bathe by a mill "
means to go to bathe on a deserted pit. Here the water is
transparent and the coasts are stony. It is good to dive in a mask
and to look at various small fishes. Aqualung swimmers like to come
here by train. Only it is far to go, probably, some fifty kilometers
from Riga.
