And
it is Riga. Self-service shop is near my house. These shelves are
dedicated to Russia. In fact, in the shops besides Russian vodka,
there is Russian beer, mineral water, caviar, and wafer cakes
“Prichuda” by a factory “Bolshevik”. |
And
now we shall find ourselves in the poorest region of Riga. In America
it would be called Harlem. I think such a region is in every city.
This is the suburb of Latgale. During the communist times it was
called the Moscow region, and during tsar - the Moscow forshtadt. It
protected Riga from north-east and in case of invasion, it had to be
burnt. After that, the place was well shot by guns from Riga fortress.

In
general - this region is considered to be Russian, however, there
lived also Jews (there even was a street called of Jews, after the
gaining of independence, it was named as during the war) and Gypsies.
There live a lot of Gypsies, even the region can be called the Gypsy
one, however, no one calls it like this, but shortly - Moskachka. (Maskava
from Latvian means - Moskow, and for instance Pleskava - Pskov). On
the picture: on Maskachka there are a lot of streets with historical
Russian names - of Turgenev, of Pushkin, Moscow. On the picture: at
once after declaration Latvia independent, Russian names of the
streets are painted with colors.

Severe Latvian humor. The inscription on the car: “Just from Germany”.
I do not know if you can see it, but this BMV has to go to the rubbish
heap.
On the right: this is a new Lada. A new Neva costs
3500 Ls (5600 USD), and the “tenth” model 3700 (6000).
